Benefits Of Ductless Air Condtioners

The most common form of heating and cooling our homes today is through central units, but are they the most efficient? Of course the answer to such a question depends on multiple factors; location, single family or multi unit housing, if a central system is already in place etc…

Like central heating and cooling there are two basic components to ductless air conditioners; an indoor and outdoor unit. The indoor unit contains an evaporator coil, air handling unit and a blower while the outdoor unit contains a condenser and a compressor. Installation can be easy for the experienced professional but following the proper instruction even a novice can complete said task.

There are advantages and disadvantages to such a system, first let’s take a look at the advantages. Since installation involves no ductwork, the average homeowner can make the installation without hiring a professional. It requires little space to function properly. Window units are bulky and could pose a security risk for your family and home. Ductless air conditioners are also less noisy than window or central a/c units since the compressor  is placed outside the home. Ductless units are also more cost effective for several reasons: Ducts lose energy thus requiring longer operating time, Installation is less expensive and a ductless unit comes with oscillating louvers and a remote control which means these units can cool and heat your home more effectively.

There are few disadvantages for this type of system one of the key disadvantages being the unit cost. While there are a great deal of savings on the installation and energy costs these units can be a bit expensive up front. For larger homes it is necessary to have several or these a/c’s installed.

Two of the most popular brands of ductless air conditioners are LG and Sanyo. Each come in a variety of styles and efficiencies ranging from 9,000 to 36,000 BTU’s (cooling and heating capacity. If your goal is to lower energy costs and have a system that will last for years to come then ductless a/c’s are a great choice for your home.
