Choosing A Mini Splits Air Conditioner
There are numerous applications for min splits air conditioners commercial and of course residential. The most common uses are in multifamily housing or in a typical hotel room. If you are interested in this type of air conditioning then note that there are advantages and disadvantages to using this type of system.
The main advantage is in regard to their size and flexibility for heating and cooling individual rooms. These units are also often easier to install than a central heating and cooling system. A mini splits system requires only a small hole about 3 inches in diameter to run the conduit or wiring. Another advantage to this type of cooling system is that they are ductless. The benefit to having a ductless system is that it reduces energy consumption or loss associated with central air conditioning. By the time the air reaches its destination or room it loses a great deal of efficiency, which in turn increases energy costs as the central unit will run longer than a mini splits system.
As with most appliances there are of course disadvantages and mini split system air conditioners are no different. The primary disadvantage is their cost. Most systems cost anywhere from about $1500 to $2000 per ton of cooling capacity. On average a mini splits system costs 30% more than a central air conditioning unit. On a side note, cooling capacity is measured in BTU’s. When you are looking to make a purchase be sure you understand the efficiency requirements for your specific needs. Another disadvantage to this type of cooling system is its looks. Many people find them to be a bit bulky and obtrusive.
Another disqualifying factor when it comes to this type of cooling system is that many certified professionals are better equipped for central air installations and oftentimes because of their investment in tools associated with a central air installations oftentimes deem it a cut in pay to work with a mini split air conditioner system.
A mini splits system is a good choice as far as energy efficiency and cooling is concerned but if you are truly interested in one of these systems due your due diligence to be certain it is the right choice for your specific needs.
